If you were faced with Him in all His glory

What would you ask if you had just one question?

- your calls are bad news
Uh, hi! This is Ca- I mean Chuck Shurley, just- Chuck, sorry. [Indistinct fumbling noises] Leave a message after the beep and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks?

You noticed.

[A little too snappy. Rein it in, Shurley.]

I just. [Needed someone who knows us both to talk to. For the love of fucking Christ.] Wanted to know if he was there okay.

He's here. Not getting up off him until we figure this out.

...What, are you sitting on him or something?

Figuratively, mate. He's sleeping.

[sobs if only Chuck knew....]

Can't let him hurt someone else. He'd never forgive himself.

[He snaps back into silence. There's a few sounds like Chuck's trying to say something, but nothing comes of it. Just a tense, pregnant quiet. Normally, Chuck hates those awkward silences on the phone, and would fill them at least with noise or fidgeting or something. There's just nothing, because he's curling into himself a little while staring at the NV's blank screen.]

How's that for gay? [but he injects some bemusement so it's not wholly defensive.]

Can I do something for you?

[It reaches him. Through the hurt and that new thing that Chuck has never felt before, the brand new-forming layers of self-protective armor to keep him from getting hurt again, the simple question reaches him.]

I don't know. [Sigh.] Something like what?

Dunno. [Obvious drag on a cigarette.] You called me.

I was still bleeding from my fucking head. It was just a looking-to-vent kind of thing.

[That's Male for "I needed someone to talk to." Yep.]

[He takes the NV away from his face a second, thumb hovering over the end button. OR THE B BUTTON since it's you know, a gameboy.

But slowly, he puts it back up.]
Go on then.

No, I'm- I'm good now. [Thanks to Castiel and Magneto. The dream team, naturally.]

It's more important to make sure this never happens again. He should train with someone who knows how to control powers, don't you think?

He's not really in any shape to train with anyone.

[he takes a breath, trying to make Chuck understand when usually he would just - hang up and handle this.] I'm taking care of it.

[Oh good, a vampire Winchester. Chuck rubs his temple hard, giving himself more of a headache in the process.]

I mean train his power, not like- train to fight. I'm just saying- Fred said that powers aren't common in your world, right?
